Re: a common sxe topic!
Tue, December 30, 2003 - 8:14 PMI don't do caffiene. I don't think its straight edge, but I think its more acceptable than drugs and booze. I prefer herbal tea, soy milk, H20, and juice. -

Re: a common sxe topic!
Wed, December 31, 2003 - 3:22 PMcaffiene is also part of my edge. i don't think it's edge either. people can get just as addicted to caffiene as nicotine. my sister gets migraines from not having enough caffiene. fuck that!! -

Re: a common sxe topic!
Thu, January 15, 2004 - 1:05 AMi like vanilla coke. coffee sucks though. as long as its not alcohol, drugs or cigs its not part of the edge in my humble opinion. like when i drive 12 hours to a show and i gotta stay up all night and not fall asleep at the wheel, a bottle of coke works nicely. -

Re: a common sxe topic!
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 8:55 AMAnd by what, definition of "drug" is caffeine excluded from? Seems like you'd have to pretty forcibly shrink any viable definitons of caffeine in order to keep said definition from including caffeine.
I'm going to say the definition of male excludes guys whos names sound like "Brent" but are spelled with two 't's so I can have sex with other men and technically not be gay in some sense. -

Re: a common sxe topic!
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 10:51 AM"No illicit sex"
So if orgies and pedophilia are legal, and sanctioned by custom, then it's ok and your still Edge? You might say "but it would never be customary even if it were ok by law", and to that I would say look at some cultures in the Fiji islands, where it's not just treated with ambivalence, but is actually encouraged. I believe some indigenous cultures in Latin America sanction it too.
il·lic·it
adj.
1. Not sanctioned by custom or law; unlawful. -

Re: a common sxe topic!
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 10:55 AMvedic illicit means no sex other than for the purpose of creating a God Conscious child. It means that the vaisnavas mediate for 5 hours before sex to purifiy ones consciousness. It is said that the soul is attracted to the consciousness of the parents at the time of conception and enters the semen of those parents. It has nothing to do with mundane law -

Re: a common sxe topic!
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 12:25 PMI suppose that's related to how in The Tibetan Book of the Dead it suggests that you avoid mating couples after you die. Because then you are reborn and start the cycle all over again. Which is assumed to be undesirable.

Re: a common sxe topic!
Mon, January 14, 2008 - 1:59 PMNot to be a trifling bitch or anything darling, but tea has a high source of Caffeine
All tea comes from the same botanical, Camellia sinensis, which contains caffeine
Herbal tea has the least amount of caffeine but all types of tea are caffeinated, Black tea has the highest source of caffeine
There IS caffeine free tea, and anything with Ginseng is good
Ginseng has the ability to stimulate mental and physical energy.
It is a mild laxative and helps the body pass toxins.
It can cure high and low blood pressure, insomnia, anemia, indigestion, fatigue, hypoglycemia, arthritis, and poor circulation.

Re: a common sxe topic!
Sun, May 2, 2004 - 3:05 PMi think if you're not using caffeine because you're straight edge.. then you're missing the point of straight edge. If you're staying away from caffeine for personal reasons, ok... fine. I stopped drinking soda for awhile because here at my school it was pretty much all they offered. I realized that with all the caffeine consumption I was having I was getting addicted. So I stopped drinking it for about a year or so to make sure I was good. Now I still mostly drink water, but I have the occassional soda as a treat. One thing you have to remember as edgers is that anything can be addictive if done too much... fighting addiction or addictive substances is not the point of straight edge. look back on the music and interviews of some of the early guys like Ian or to some extent Kevin Seconds. it may be that if you're goin' this hardline you may need to rethink why it is you're straight edge, hardline for personal reasons though is fine more power to ya. just don't go around sayin' that cause you're hardline that that is the only way to be straight edge.

Re: a common sxe topic!
Thu, July 27, 2006 - 9:18 PM"Don't drink, don't drug, don't fuck." That was the mantra the movement was built on, and everyone that has ever truly lived by it has had to interpret what it truly means to them. If someone drinks alcohol, then obviously, they are not edge. If someone smokes a ciggarette, then obviously, they are not edge. If someone has a one night stand with a stranger, then obviously, they are not edge. If someone drinks caffeinnated soda, then guess what, whether or not they are edge is for that person, and only that person to decide. There are grey areas. If I have a migraine, I'll take excedrin. It's not altering my awareness or state of mind in anyway. I'm being true to myself by understanding that medicine and science can be used to relieve physical pain. It goes on from there. I could write a book about how grey area is abused, misinterpreted and misunderstood. It shouldn't be neccessary. True straight edge is about true integrity, not about whether or not you consider caffeinne or medicine to be acceptable. -
